Hervé Essential Mix

February 28, 2009

In case you missed this one last week on BBC, here is one of the best Essential mixes…in my opinion! Great for your pre-party on a Saturday night.

Hervé’s ghetto bass is so sick!

the consistenly money brokeN’beat radio podcast (based out of philadelphia) is back with a new mix this week.  i was worried it had gone dead as the last post was way back in june 08, so i’m pleased to see a new mix up.  thanks argo!  the mix serves as a nice survey of latest tracks from the nu jazz/broken beat/deep house scene. official blurb and link below.  recommended

selections

February 25, 2009

dscn15961

i’m back from boreal wilderness so now present to you a selection.  music that so easily invites  itself to landscape projections, in drive by or fly by, consumed in headphones, glances from windows.  these are tunes of the stunted forest, tunes i love and share with you tonight.

dark glitch-ridden soundscapes

February 22, 2009

desertWhile their latest album isn’t quite so hot-off-the-presses anymore – Immolate Yourself was released in January – it’s still making obsessively regular appearances in my daily music rotation.

This album kills me. At times painfully beautiful, it pops and drones in a dreamy haze of sound. With a slight nod to shoegaze and hints of – dare I say it – IDM, it sucks you into an otherworld of shadowy ambient pop. It feels like the open road, a barren desert, long trips on a rural train. But it’s also warm, epic, and urban.

“Helen of Troy” and “You Are The Worst Thing In The World” are two of my faves. As is this one:

Tragically, one of the members of this talented duo died the same month this album was released. Charles Cooper will be missed.

mini rap tape

February 14, 2009

rappic3

made a quick little rap tape on thursday after i found some cheap ludacris and miss dynamite records at hot wax.  in truth a 50/50 mix of raps and instrumentals, busta rhymes, the clipse, flying lotus and rustie all make a return on this one.  as well, we have the spacey production of madlib that is so weird and nice under erykah badu vocals and cheeky diddies from fiddy and mr. oizo.  there is even (perhaps untimely) an appearance by chris brown.  rnb!  wtf?!  yes, thanks to hudson mohawke’s OOoops, i’m feeling the rhythm and blues. pop is infectious

M.I.A. & the tigers

February 14, 2009

k. i have to weigh in on all the flack the girl is getting on this one. sl soldiers are two steps from walking the tamils right into the ocean. so it seems a strange time to come down hard on someone for taking sides (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/11/world/asia/11mia.html?_r=1&hp). le.tanque isnt a broad sheet, but it supports voice. and the fact that the rest of us can make up our own minds.

Detroit vs. Miami

February 6, 2009

I’m in Miami B*tch!  Catchy remake of the ever so popular (annoying?) put your hands up for Detroit.  LMFAO does a spinoff version (I’m in Miami B*tch!)  Here’s the Scottie B remix of the remix for your listening pleasure.  I couldn’t help but post this after watching some Dexter.  Pop music after watching a pop show. . .I should be banned from posting for a week.
