Finally the long awaited uffie full length album was released. It is actually way better than I thought. She even brought some friends like…. pharrell. But she just goes to show that you don’t need any talent to be a famous singer… high five to all you producers!

I realized there has never been a post about Four Tet (Kieran Hebdan) on letanque and figured it’s about time. He has had a huge influence on me and I am sure on countless other musicians and producers. I think I have had a crush on his music for almost a decade. He started as the remix king (sia, madvillain, 2-disc remix album) and then continued on with some really solid solo albums (dialogue, pause, my angel rocks back and forth, everything ecstatic) to name a few. He sort of disappeared off my radar until his dj-kicks album came out. It was amazing when it came out but I didn’t quite understand it. Now, 30 listens and 4 years later I can finally give a wag of my finger and say that he taught me a lesson and I didn’t know it. Now everyone wants to remix him. FFWD today and I can’t get enough of some recent singles/collaborations (burial – moth/wolfcub), (love cry – remixed by roska, joy orbison), (sing – floating points remix). Not to mention his newest album – The Is Love In You. I think the number one compliment as a dj or producer would be to work with FOUR TET.
I realize as I search around that I am totally late on this post as he appeared on BBC Radio one not too long ago. that’s ok, he deserves more credit.
waiting for a bus that will never come. stuck in slippery traffic. hanging out at the hospital hooked to an IV. here are some good loud techno tunes to say fuck you old man winter!
To follow up on Camstyles post I have been pulling some long hours in front of the computer these days, working on new projects. Like many of us out there I suffer from music ADD. So when an artist or album comes a long that I play over and over I know it’s something special. Lately I have been getting into indie, blues rock, dream pop, and of course some techno. Here are some artists that have helped me pass the time; in each genre:
INDIE:
Sub pop’s fleet foxes hailing from Seattle, some nice easy listening that can be listened to loud or soft depending on your mood, enjoy…
The Black Keys, I kept hearing their name everywhere for a few years but never really listened to them. Until I started watching the HBO show ” HUNG” thier song I’ll be your man is the theme song for the show, so I got some of their albums and really enjoyed what I heard.
I first heard Silversun Pickups at a friends house the other night. I first I thought it was a new Smashing Pumpkins album then I though it was Girls against Boys. Then I realized I had to have it. Check these guys out… serious!
Joker’s been getting a lot of play on my speakers this summer and here’s another remix that needed his grimy flare. His sound is as sweet as this crushed velvet inside my accordion case.
It’s been about 3 years since JFK and AL-P dropped “The Looks,” an album that played a major part blowing up the big electro-house sound. “Fist Of God” is the sophomore effort and from the first few distorted synth notes of the opening track “It Ain’t Love(1),” you can already tell you’re in for… hype shit to make the kids go crazy! The sound really reminds me of a Canadian Justice (and I mean that in the best possible way) with all its over-the-top synths, distorted guitar , and face-smashing drum programming, all of which you will find throughout the entire album. Interestingly enough though, the duo recruits a variety of vocal talent to add to the sound (like Lil Mo’ on that first track). From the thizzed-out hyphy slang of E-40 on “Click Click(2),” chopped up Ghostface Killah vox on “Word Up(3),” party hooks galore by NORE on the single “Bounce(4),” and even some neo-soul meets electro with John Legend on “Heartbreaker (5),” the two are bringing back vocals to the mix. I remember someone saying on the blog that the new shit is gonna be these big dance producers collaborating with vocal talent and well, here it is. Don’t forget to check the purely instrumental jams “1,000 Cigarettes(6)” and the title track(7) if you really wanna blow the lid off the arena. 11 tracks total.
Detroit Grand Pubahs have been getting tonnes of play on the internet and in the clubs lately . . .which is great! I must be getting old, because I clearly remember watching the video for sandwiches on Too Much for Much a long time ago. And it’s still in my head up until this day! I guess it’s spread around like wildfire because a) it’s a great, catchy tune or b) they are trying to plug for their new mix tape. Looks like it is out now or sometime soon on a compilation called Detroit Connection PT. 4. Search it! I am helping the cause. Here’s a fun track
While watching this I read their myspace. They are from buttopolis, switzerland. Their band members are:
DIRECTIONS TO BUTTOPOLIS… I’ll give you directions. Head for Uranus then make a right at the first two moons. Then keep straight for 1 black hole with space gas, left at the gulon then one ahead galaxy and you’re at Planet X. If you go another light year you’ll end up in Buttopolis.
