Another Catchy Spring Track… thanks “FX”

March 26, 2010

So Jon “FX” Crawford produces a track called “Thunderball Riddim” then says damn this beat is sick, I am going to get all the hottest dancehall MC’s to spit on it. The results are unreal and this complation has been on repeat on my itunes for weeks. Not bad considering it’s all the same beat HAHAHA. Here are 2 samples, but go get the album it doesn’t disappoint: Thunder Ball Riddim

11 dub

November 10, 2009

mad_professor_456_001

Last year for the big decade of dub party they brought in Sister Nancy and this year they have done the one-up booking Mad Professor to mark the 11th anniversary. Yes, Dub at the Pub, Calgary’s long standing all things dub and reggae night down at the Drum and Monkey has been keeping Tuesday’s worthy a night out  for 11 years now.  Congrats are surely due to DJ’s High & I for doing their thing all these years.  Roots reggae on the Drum & Monkey side, hard dancehall to ragga jungle on the Bamboo side, two rooms to vibe and bounce in and out of all night long.  I can barely contain excitement writing this, mf MAD PROFESSOR tomorrow night!  Get there early kids.

For the life of me I can’t find my copy of the Mad Professor vs. Massive Attack album so here is a video and a few Dub at the Pub inspired tracks.

Buju Banton – Murderer

Capelton – Jah Jah City

D Jahsta – High Grade Mashup

Sizzla – One Love (Self Evident Remix)

postscript:  self evident will be playing over at lord nelson’s this friday.

This album has been on heavy rotation in my office this week, it’s so freaking hot and I love the lyrics. It’s awesome in these depressing times to hear some uplifting songs.

sunday sun

July 21, 2008

awesome for me, i had to work today.  but it was kicks cause the heat was on (+28C) and i was on my own so could crank the stereo and sing along all day.  here are a few tunes i’ve been booming in the truck…

first up, one from the new Erykah Badu LP.  simple production that provokes the beat head nod.  hmmm so i’m thinking she has done well with producers, this must be some new underground beat master, nope, to write this post i looked it up…. production credits go to otis jackson jr.  aka madlib.  go figure

the-healer_hip-hop-rmx-f-pharoahe-monch

next up a true summer vibe… jamaican style (is reggae not synonymous with summer vibes?).   here is mr. vegas with a catchy diddy on the darker shade of black riddim.   just “lean wid it”

mr. vegas – lean with it

next, another one for head nods.  the names nods not shakes.  this one is courtesy of flyamsam (flying lotus and samiyam) i’m loving this style of hip hop lately.  aka rustie, heralds of change, hudson mohawke  (future post material)

flyamsam – green tea power

and for the real fun stuff…  classic baltimore material from jim sharp (across the pond). this one is chalk full of mid 90s hiphop samples, sped up dancehall lyrics, and chopped up editing (@ 2.36) to get the masses tweaking.

jim sharp – rub up on em

also here some fun from a-trak and lill bo tweak.

a-trak – say whoa

lil bo tweak -dub-be-good

summa heat!
